We all must inform youth of consequences

I would like to personally thank the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office, particularly Maj. Skebo and our dedicated school resource officer (SRO) team for their unwavering commitment to keeping our schools safe. As a former principal, teacher and director of school safety, I deeply appreciate Maj. Skebo's call to action for parents to have critical conversations with their children about the responsible use of social media and the serious consequences of spreading fear or misinformation related to school safety.

These threats not only disrupt our schools but also create unnecessary fear and anxiety in our community. It's vital that parents, school staff, law enforcement and the entire community work together to address these issues head-on. We must all take responsibility to inform our youth that engaging in such reckless behavior will result in severe consequences, affecting their futures.

Our schools are meant to be places of education, support, and growth, where children can acquire the skills necessary to succeed in life. Let's continue to remind our youth of the importance of respecting and maintaining the safety of these environments. Together, through open dialogue and community-wide effort, we can ensure our schools remain safe spaces for learning and development.
