It is just over five months since Arne Slot took over as Liverpool 's new head coach, and things could hardly have gone better.

The Dutchman has led his side to the top of the Premier League with eight wins from 10 matches, the top of the league phase of the Champions League (the only club to have a perfect record after four games) and the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

On the field, solutions have been found for problem positions — notably Ryan Gravenberch flourishing as a No 6 — and old hands such as Virgil van Dijk have shown a new side to their game. Others, such as Luis Diaz , Kostas Tsimikas and Ibrahima Konate , have taken their football to new levels.

Off it, Liverpool's new structure is bedding down with Richard Hughes busy in his new job as sporting director under Michael Edwards, and changes being made to the recruitment department ahead of the January transfer window.

Yet there is the odd cloud on the horizon — notably the still unresolved issues surrounding new contracts for Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold , who are all entitled to sign pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs from January 1.
