A loaded gun was found in the backpack Monday of an Alabama high school student who was tased after trying to flee from a school resource officer who asked to search their bag, according to Albertville City Schools.

Albertville High School School Resource Officer Gilbert Lucero received information about a student potentially having a weapon around 2:55 p.m. Monday, the district said Monday night.

Lucero and administrators at the high school searched the student.

The officer then confronted the student and asked to search the student's bag when the student tried to flee, the district said.

The student was then tased.

An administrator then found a loaded gun in the student's backpack, according to Albertville City Schools.

The student was then taken into custody by Albertville police, the district said.

While the district said there is no ongoing threat to students or staff, the high school will have an increased law enforcement presence on Tuesday,

The district said it is cooperating with authorities and will provide more information on the incident once the investigation is finished.

Dozens of districts across the state have experienced threats this month after a 14-year-old shot and killed two teachers and two students at a Georgia high school.
