NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - For 13 years, the Nacogdoches Railroad Depot has given one man's hobby the chance to touch the lives of everyone who sees it.

"This gives me my two months of pleasure, and that's where I get my enjoyment," said Nacogdoches resident George Ellis.

Usually, Ellis puts together his 200 square feet high rail display for people to see during the Christmas holiday, but this year, he's sharing his train collection, which goes back to 1950, with veterans.

"I just think there's a way to connect with the veterans, young and old," said Ellis.

Ellis, who's a Navy Vietnam vet himself says to mark the occasion, the display shows off Vietnam War military vehicles, led by steam locomotives which would've run back then.

"A lot of work, but you know, good things come from hard work," said Ellis.

Ellis says it takes about six weeks to put the display together.

It features a full cityscape, complete with Nacogdoches staples, and plenty of moving parts.

Ellis says you're likely to want to shrink down and walk the display yourself.

"I've got folks my age that just come in and reminisce about trains, and then the youngsters come in with big eyes and just joy. It's a good family hobby," said Ellis.

The Loblolly train display will open free to the public this Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Nacogdoches Railroad Depot.
