Local events to celebrate veterans
Williamsport, Pa. — There are about 800,000 veterans living in Pennsylvania, making it the fourth-largest veteran-population state in the nation, according to the Pa. Department of Human Services. November is a time to honor veterans for their sacrifices, service, and selflessness for country.
Here are events in November to support and recognize area veterans:
Centre County
Military Appreciation Banner unveiling: Friday, Nov. 4, 6 p.m. Penn State University will host a Military Appreciation Banner Unveiling on College Avenue. The unveiling of 12 new banners will be followed by a proclamation at 7 p.m. at the State College Municipal Building.
National Veterans Small Business Week: Nov. 11-15. Centre County Commissioners proclaimed November as Military Appreciation Month and recognize veteran-owned small businesses during the week of Nov. 11-15.
Columbia County
Bloomsburg Veteran's Day Parade: Saturday, Nov. 9. The annual Veterans Day Parade will form at 10 a.m. in the Geisinger Bloomsburg Parking lot, then step off at 11 a.m. There will be a brief program at the end of the parade and light refreshments at the Bloomsburg Fire Hall.
Veteran's Memorial of Columbia County Dedication Ceremony: A public ceremony to honor veterans from Columbia County, Nov. 11. Held at Bloomsburg American Legion Post 273, 110 Juniper St., Bloomsburg.
Lycoming County
Lycoming County Veterans Day Parade: Muncy, Pa., Nov. 9, 2 p.m. The parade will travel down Main Street in Muncy, and all are invited to line the streets and support area veterans.
Veterans Breakfast: Hosted by state Rep. Jamie Flick, 83rd District veterans, Friday, Nov. 15.
The free breakfast buffet will be held from 8-10 a.m. at the American Legion Post 1, 10 E. Third St., in Williamsport.
"I come from a strong military family, and I know many military families in our area who have amazing stories of sacrifice, resilience and dedication," said Flick. "This breakfast is a small token of my appreciation for our area's finest heroes, who have given so much for our country and continue to inspire us all. It's an honor to recognize their service."
Samantha Cossman, regional program outreach coordinator from Central Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, will also be on hand to answer questions and share information for veterans and military families.

Northumberland County
Veterans Breakfasts: Hosted by state Rep. JoAnne Stehr, 107th District veterans.
The meals are a way to say "thank you" to local veterans. All veterans in the 107th District are invited with one guest.
Veterans Breakfast: Hosted by state Rep. Michael Stender, 108th District veterans, Thursday, Nov. 21.
