Two young Locust Grove residents have been charged with murder in connection with the death of a newborn baby in July, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office learned about the death on Saturday, a news release states. Sofia Elizabeth Dyson and James Brown, both 19, were arrested the next day.
Police said the investigation showed that a child was born at home sometime in the latter part of July. The infant was killed immediately after birth, police said.
Both suspects are charged with defiling a dead human body and conspiracy to commit a felony. Dyson is also charged with first-degree murder, while Brown is charged with being a principal in the second degree to murder. Both were placed in the Central Virginia Regional Jail under no bond.
Police said they would release no further information at this time, including how the baby was killed or how police obtained information about the alleged slaying. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call Investigator Miranda Pitts at 540/672-1200.
