Long Beach Man Suspected Of Sexual Violence Against Child Under 14 A Long Beach man was arrested on suspicion of committing acts of sexual violence against multiple victims, including two minors.

LONG BEACH, CA — A Long Beach man was arrested on suspicion of multiple sexual crimes, including against a child under the age of 14, police announced Thursday.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, 34-year-old Melvin Aaron Johnson is believed to be responsible for at least four separate acts of sexual violence against women and children within the city of Long Beach. Detectives are urging additional victims to come forward.

Johnson is accused of committing a forcible lewd act against a child under 14 in 2014, sexual assault with intent to commit a felony against a child under 18 in 2024, and sexually assaulting two more adult women in 2024. According to investigators, Johnson used a firearm during several of the incidents.

In addition to the Long Beach incidents, detectives said Johnson is a person of interest in multiple additional sexual assault cases in Los Angeles County and the state of Nevada.

Johnson was arrested on Oct. 30 in Long Beach and was booked into Long Beach City Jail. Johnson faces charges of:

  • forcible lewd act against a child under age 14;
  • forcible rape;
  • forcible oral copulation;
  • two counts of sexual assault with intent to commit a felony;
  • sexual battery for the purpose of sexual arousal;
  • sexual battery through restraint;
  • sexual assault with intent to commit a felony against a victim under 18;
  • possession of a firearm by a felon.
  • Johnson's bail was set at $3,560,000.
