Long weekend weather: Summer-like heatwave hits Sydney and Brisbane

Millions of Aussies look set for an early jolt of summer on Monday, with the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting sweltering temperatures for three major cities.

Brisbane could hit a high of 32C across the day, BOM said on Monday morning, while Sydney will shrug off its rainy weather to hit a possible high of 29C.

The hot tropical days will likely hold for the Sunshine State capital across the week, with the bureau forecasting storms and a high of 33 degrees on Tuesday, and then highs of 24 for Wednesday and Thursday and 27 for Friday.

Sydney will likely drop from 29C on Monday to a high of 19C on Tuesday, and then 20C on Wednesday and 24C on Thursday.

Darwin will likely reach 36C, with the top end town set to swelter under 36C temperatures for the rest of the week.

But while summer will hit across the NT, Queensland and NSW , rain and sharp temperatures will wash over the southern parts of the country.

Melbourne is forecast to get some rain with a temperature high of 19C, while showers and windy conditions will hit Hobart alongside a max temperature of 15C.

Adelaide will be partly cloudy with a top of 20C and Perth will range between 11C and 24C.

The days will heat up for Perth across the week, with the WA capital set to hit 30C on Friday.
