The owners of a longtime Lincolnville pub plan to close it next month and put it on the market.

The Whale's Tooth Pub at 2531 Route 1 will close on Oct. 14, owners Chris and Martha Nickerson announced on Facebook this week . They also said they are looking to sell the property, business and an attached residence.

The Whale's Tooth first opened in 1994, according to its website , and the Nickersons said they have run the year-round business for almost four years. They made the "very tough decision" to shut its doors because they aim to spend more time with their out-of-state family.

"We thank, admire and so appreciate the extremely devoted team members here who have diligently served over 50,000 guests since opening our doors nearly four years ago," the pair said. "We owe so much gratitude to friends and neighbors who have trusted us with their dining experience all year-round."

The business will continue to operate normally until the closure and will hold an open house with discounted food and drinks, as well as live music, in early October.

The Nickersons are selling the whole property, which includes the "turn-key" restaurant space as well as an attached 3-bedroom residence and 400 feet of shoreline, according to their website .
