Long-time Whittier resident Louise Mackey passed away on September 3, 2024, at age 103 with her daughters at her side. She was born on August 20, 1921, to John and Emily Neal in Los Angeles, CA. She moved to Whittier at 16 months following her mother's death and was adopted by her uncle and aunt, Robert and Adeline Neal. She graduated from Whittier High School in 1939 and attended Chapman College.She married Thomas Oakley Mackey Jr. in 1944, and they had three children. Louise was a homemaker when her kids were young, returning to work as a secretary at Santa Fe High School. She ended her career as Secretary to the Principal and retired when she was 80.Louise was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Oakley. Mackey Jr., her son, Thomas Oakley Mackey III. Her sisters, Margaret Miller and Doris White. She is survived by her daughters, Erin Johnson (Mike), Neala Mackey (Tim Hopkins). Grandchildren Janine Zornes (Bill), Michael Mackey, Maegan Crawford (Jason), Lauren Johnson and Neils Johnson. Great-grandchildren, Kyla Truscinski (Peter), Morgan VerValin (Max), Robert, Thomas and Geneva Crawford and great-great grandson Isaac Truscinski. She is also survived by ten nieces, two nephews and a cousin. Louise was an active member of Whittier First Christian Church until its closure. She then attended Hillcrest Congregational Church in La Habra Heights.A funeral service will be held Thursday, September 26, 2024 1:00 PM at Rose Hills Memorial Park – Hillside Chapel, Gate 17, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601.
