Today's installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.

* Wisconsin's U.S. Senate race was close, but NBC News projects that Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin has defeated Republican Eric Hovde, winning a fourth term. The incumbent senator prevailed even as Donald Trump won the Badger State.

* On a related note, Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin won Michigan's U.S. Senate race, narrowly defeating former Republican Rep. Mike Rogers. Like Baldwin, Slotkin won even as Trump prevailed in the Wolverine State.

* As things stand, Senate Republicans will have a 52-seat majority in the next Congress, but that number might yet grow: Races in Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Nevada have not yet been called .

* On a related note, while it's clear which party will control Congress' upper chamber in the new year, the fate of the U.S. House is still uncertain. At this point, it appears that odds are against a Democratic majority, but it's still a possibility .

* As Republicans scored big wins at the federal level, did they make similar gains in many state legislatures? Of course they did .

* In state Supreme Court contests, the Democratic majority on Michigan's high court is now larger , while Republicans now dominate on Ohio's Supreme Court.

* How did pollsters fare in the 2024 cycle? A New York Times analysis makes the case that the polls this year did not "significantly underestimate" Trump's support.
