Major home goods retailer Wayfair is laying off workers starting next year.

This round of layoffs follows one the company announced toward the start of the year that affected its global workforce.

According to Retail Dive , Wayfair announced that it will be closing its returns center and outlet store in Florence, Ky., at the end of 2025. The company decided not to renew its lease.

Wayfair submitted a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notice on Oct. 9, stating that 218 employees will be let go as a result of this closure. The company confirmed it will be assisting affected employees by helping them find jobs at other locations and with local employment agencies.

A January CNN reported how Wayfair also laid off about 1,650 toward the start of this year, which is roughly 13 percent of its international workforce.

CNN points out that this particular round of layoffs took place after CEO Niraj Shah now notoriously went viral for telling employees to work harder during an end-of-the-year message.

"Winning requires hard work," he said in the video. "I believe that most of us, being ambitious individuals, find fulfillment in the joy of seeing our efforts materialize into tangible results.

"Working long hours, being responsive, blending work and life, is not anything to shy away from. There is not a lot of history of laziness being rewarded with success."

Wayfair began to struggle in 2022 due to the return to in-person shopping paired the a shift away from the purchase of physical goods in consumer trends, according to a then-CNN report . The company announced it was cutting five percent of its employees that same year.

Wayfair posted a net loss of $42 million in its second quarter.
