Major Traffic Problems Expected This Week In Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton

DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Expect significant traffic issues this week in Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, and all over Palm Beach County as major projects continue and "wrong way" lights are installed on I-95. Here's the update we received from the Florida Department of Transportation with additions from several local municipalities.

Advanced Wrong-Way Driving Safety Improvements Project in Broward and Palm Beach County

Description: Installing flashing beacons, wrong-way signage, and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices at 23 exit ramps to enhance safety by detecting wrong-way drivers and preventing serious injury crashes on the State Highway System; integrating the wrong-way driving detecting system/ITS with the Regional Transportation Management Center (RTMC) to aid in alerting motorists and notifying law enforcement; and upgrading wrong-way signage and pavement markings to preserve the service life of the road and enhance visibility. Ramps Impacts:

Shoulder Closure Notice: The I-95 northbound and southbound exit ramp shoulders at Palmetto Park Road will be closed daily, as needed, 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Shoulder Closure Notice: The I-95 northbound and southbound exit ramp shoulders at Atlantic Avenue will be closed daily, as needed, 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Shoulder Closure Notice: The I-95 northbound exit ramp shoulder at Blue Heron Boulevard will be closed daily, as needed, 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Shoulder Closure Notice: The I-95 northbound and southbound exit ramp shoulders at 10 Avenue N will be closed daily, as needed, 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Shoulder Closure Notice: The I-95 northbound and southbound exit ramp shoulders at the Palm Beach International Airport will be closed daily, as needed, 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS) Project:

Description: This 6-mile project from the Broward/Palm Beach County Line to SR 794/Yamato Road and SR 794/Yamato Road from SR 5/US 1 to SR 9/I-95 in the city of Boca Raton began on July 31, 2023. Work includes installing a new fiber optic network, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices, including Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) devices at eight (8) intersections on US 1 from Royal Palm Way to Spanish River Boulevard, upgrading the signal detection system, and upgrading the Advance Traffic Management System (ATMS) for compatibility with the Traffic Management Center (TMC). Cost/Completion: $3.6 million/Fall 2024.

Traffic Impacts: The following intersections of SR 5/US 1 and Royal Palm Road, NE Mizner Boulevard, NE 15th Terrace, NE 24th Street, NE 32nd Street, and NE Spanish River Boulevard will have traffic redirected nightly by law enforcement from 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. for signalization activities, beginning Sunday, Sept. 29, and continuing Sunday through Thursday.

SR 800/Spanish River Boulevard Over the Intracoastal Waterway (ICWW) Scour Countermeasures Project

Description: This 0.092-mile project on SR 800/Spanish River Boulevard over the Intracoastal Waterway (ICWW) in the City of Boca Raton began January 9, 2024. Work includes Installing Articulated Concrete Block (ACB) at the riverbed to protect the bridge foundations from erosion on the eastbound and westbound SR 800/Spanish River Boulevard bridges. Cost/Completion: $2.1 million. Completion is expected in Winter 2024.

Traffic Impacts:

The frontage road will have intermittent lane closures, daily as needed, from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, for debris removal activities. Flaggers will be on-site to assist motorists. The SR 800/Spanish River Boulevard Bridge will have intermittent lane closures, daily as needed, from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, for material delivery operations. Flaggers will be on-site to assist motorists. Pedestrian detours will be in place. Marine Impacts:

Crews will be on-site performing underwater debris removal outside of the navigable channel. No impacts to boaters are anticipated with this activity. Divers will be on site daily as needed performing underwater survey work – boaters, please use caution. No impact to the channel is anticipated with this activity.

City of Boynton Beach Sidewalk and Bicycle Lane Improvements Project Description:

This.62-mile project on SR 804/Boynton Beach Boulevard and.7 miles on W Ocean Avenue in the City of Boynton Beach began on May 7, 2024. Work includes milling, resurfacing and reconstructing SR 804/Boynton Beach Boulevard within project limits, expanding the existing sidewalk on the south side of SR 804/Boynton Beach Boulevard to 15 feet and to 9 feet on the north side, performing drainage modifications to accommodate sidewalk expansion on SR 804/Boynton Beach Boulevard, retrofitting pedestrian lighting at signalized intersections on SR/804 Boynton Beach Boulevard, constructing a new pedestrian crossing at NW 3rd Street and SR 804/Boynton Beach Boulevard, installing shared lane bicycle markings (sharrows) in each direction of SR 804/Boynton Beach Boulevard and on West Ocean Avenue, and upgrading pedestrian signals, pavement markings, and signs. Traffic Impacts:

One outside lane in each direction of SR 804/Boynton Beach Boulevard from just west of NW 3rd Street to US 1/Federal Highway are closed for roadway, drainage, curb and gutter and sidewalk construction through March 2025. Pedestrians will be detoured to the next signalized intersection.

BOCA RATON

Northbound A1A/S Ocean Boulevard from E Camino Real to Beach Club Way, in Boca Raton, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, starting Thursday, October 3rd, 2024, to Friday, October 11th, 2024, 1 of 1 lane closed for bridge repairs.
