GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — NCDOT is making safety improvements on Memorial Drive starting Monday. The work will be in-between O'Hagan place to 5th street. They will be installing concrete traffic islands so drivers cannot turn north and south bound along south Memorial Drive.

This work will take about four weeks to complete. When it is finished, drivers will not be able to cross or turn left in this section of south Memorial Drive, but instead will have to make a U-turn at the traffic light at 5th and Stantonsburg Road.

"This safety project comes due to the crash history in this area. The five year crash history... We've had 103 crashes in this area within the past five years," said Jim Evans, the Division Traffic Engineer.
