Man allegedly harassed Trump supporters with Nazi flyers in Verona

Authorities were able to track down a man they say disseminated flyers to residents in Verona through his Giant Eagle Advantage card.

Officers with the Verona Police Department say for weeks, residents complained about 'harassing flyers' being thrown into their yards.

Those flyers contained the following message: "NAZI's 4 TRUMP...MAKE AMERICA 1930s GERMANY AGAIN .... 2024-TIL DEATH."

The flyers appeared to target yards with signs and flags relating to supporting former President Donald Trump's reelection bid.

The criminal complaint notes: "All residents were alarmed and annoyed by these flyers and felt threatened due to their choice in political affiliation and support for Donald Trump."

Authorities say they reviewed video surveillance several times and were able to identify the suspect as a man with white hair in a red Ford Explorer.

On Oct. 3, a woman contacted the investigating officer after she found a flyer attached to a used Giant Eagle fried chicken bag.

Officers were able to look at footage from the store and spot the suspect using his Advantage Card to pay for the chicken.

Through that card, police identified Philip Heffler from Penn Hills as a suspect in the case, the complaint states.

When authorities interviewed Heffler, he allegedly admitted to throwing the flyers in yards. According to the complaint, Heffler was "upset with people supporting Donald Trump's reelection bid."

The complaint goes on to say Heffler said he did not think he would get caught and was 'apologetic.'

Heffler is facing charges of harassment and scattering rubbish.
