ELKHART, Ind. (WNDU) - A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting last weekend in Elkhart that resulted in the death of a restaurant owner .

The Elkhart County Prosecutors Office says 24-year-old Joshua Martinez of Plymouth was arrested on Thursday in Wakarusa for murder and attempted murder. Formal charges are expected to be filed against Martinez early next week.

The shooting happened last Sunday, Nov. 3, in the 700 block of County Road 3 North , which is near Elkhart High School. When police arrived on scene, they say they found two men who had been shot.

One of the men, identified as 33-year-old Romulo Reyes of Elkhart, died from his injuries at the scene. Reyes was one of the owners of Madrid Tokio Fusion, according to the mayor's office in Elkhart. The popular restaurant just opened this past summer in downtown Elkhart.

The other man, a 38-year-old from South Bend, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He was upgraded to stable condition earlier this week.

Martinez is due in court next Thursday, Nov. 14, for an initial hearing. Officials say he will be held without bond until that time.
