Man charged in West Rogers Park shooting involving CPD officers in court Thursday
CHICAGO — The man facing terrorism, hate crime and attempted murder charges in the shooting of a Jewish man in West Rogers Park is set to face a judge Thursday.
Chicago police said 22-year-old Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi is charged with six felony counts of attempted first-degree murder, seven felony counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, one felony count of aggravated battery with the discharge of a firearm, one felony count of terrorism and one felony count of a hate crime.
This is the first time Abdallahi will be facing a judge as he has been hospitalized since he got into a shootout with police in late October on the 2600 block of West Farwell Avenue.
Officers were initially called to the scene following reports that a person had been shot in the area.
Upon arrival, Abdallahi allegedly began firing in the direction of officers, hitting a Chicago Fire Department ambulance. Authorities say the suspect continued to fire at officers from various locations.

A gunfight broke out between the 22-year-old and police. Abdallahi was shot, treated at the scene and taken to a local hospital.
The victim of the initial shooting, a 39-year-old Jewish man who suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder, was on his way to a synagogue.
Authorities alledge evidence show Abdallahi was targetting Jewish communities.
A spokesperson for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed to WGN News that officers have lodged an immigration detainer with Cook County Jail on Abdallahi, who is a Mauritanian national.
