Odessan convicted of killing homeless man in 2022, sentenced to 60 years
ECTOR COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- An Ector County jury has convicted a man of murder in the 2022 shooting death of a homeless man. Isaiah Renteria has been sentenced to 60 years in prison.
Around 8:20 p.m. on April 15, 2022, the Odessa Police responded to a DK store at 1000 N Dixie Boulevard and found 49-year-old Shawnn McCracken dead at the scene. Shortly after police arrived at the store, they received another call from dispatch stating the person responsible for the shooting was waiting for police at the Boys and Girls Club in the 800 block of E 13th Street.
When officers approached Renteria, he reportedly told officers he shot McCracken after a verbal fight then left the scene and called 911. Testimony showed that Renteria initially walked away from the verbal argument with McCracken but then returned to the scene and shot the victim five times.
Upon his death, McCracken was remembered by his friends at Jesus House Odessa for his kindness and generosity.
