Man dies in fall from balcony at local polling place
CLEVELAND (WJW) — A Cleveland man died Tuesday after falling from an upper-floor balcony of a high-rise apartment building in the city's Union-Miles Park neighborhood.
That day, Union Square , an eight-floor apartment complex at 3495 E. 98th Street, was doubling as a polling place for the 2024 general election, according to a spokesperson for the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority , which manages the property.
Man accused of setting fire at local Walmart, one person injured
It happened just after 6 p.m., while Cuyahoga County residents were casting ballots inside.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office later identified the man as 52-year-old Jermaine Kidd, of Cleveland.
Witnesses said they saw Kidd fall while attempting to climb over a railing on the rear of the building, away from the main entrance, according to the spokesperson.
Cleveland EMS workers pronounced Kidd dead at the scene.
Housing authority police are now investigating.
