Man in critical condition after Lafayette motorcycle crash

UPDATE, 10:50 a.m.: University Avenue is back open to traffic, according to Lafayette Police

ORIGINAL STORY: LAFAYETTE, La. () — University Avenue in Lafayette is closed at the intersection of Simcoe Street due to a motorcycle crash, authorities said.

Lafayette Police Traffic Investigators are currently on scene investigating a major vehicle crash involving a motorcycle at the intersection. One person has been transported to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition, authorities said.

All lanes of travel on University in that area is closed, and motorists are being asked to use an alternate route.

Police said the crash occurred when a truck that was traveling on University was making a left turn onto Simcoe Street. The truck turned in front of the motorcycle which was traveling northbound on University.

The investigation is ongoing. This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
