A man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash on a main road in West Sussex.

Sussex Police said the crash involved a blue Yamaha motorcycle and a white Ford Transit Connect on the A27 westbound at Clapham, at 17:17 BST on Monday.

The motorcyclist, a 20-year-old man from Worthing, was taken to hospital, where he currently remains.

The van driver, a 62-year-old man from Waterlooville in Hampshire, was uninjured.

Sussex Police closed a section of the road for several hours following the crash to allow for recovery and forensic examination.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Joint Fire Control mobilised two fire engines from Worthing and one from East Preston to the scene.

"The road was closed in both directions for the arrival of the air ambulance and to allow crews to work safely."

Sussex Police added: "We'd like to thank the public for their patience and understanding."

Anyone who saw what happened or has relevant dash cam or mobile footage is being asked to contact the police.
