Man leads LMPD on pursuit, dies from self-inflicted gun shot wound

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A man is dead after leading LMPD on a pursuit Sunday that began in Shively and went into Oldham County before ending in the Chickasaw neighborhood where he sustained a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound. Louisville Police said the chase began at around 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 17 when officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a man with outstanding warrants on Dixie Highway and Ralph Avenue. The man fled and was pursued by officers including the LMPD Air Unit, who were able to locate the vehicle. He continued to flee and led a chase across several divisions across town and into Oldham County before returning to Louisville. The man crashed into a parked vehicle at 39th and Broadway but continued to flee, returning to that area later where he sustained the deadly gunshot wound. During the chase, an officer crashed into another vehicle. Two people in that vehicle were taken to UofL Hospital and are expected to live. The officer was not injured.
