Man who died in wrong way crash on I-74 near Morton is identified

TAZEWELL COUNTY ( 25News Now ) - Tazewell County authorities said it was a Bloomington man who was killed Wednesday night when his pickup truck crashed head-on into a semi on Interstate 74, just east of the Morton exit. Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley said preliminary findings of an autopsy showed Jason Stephens, 44, died from multiple blunt force injuries, and that Stephens was dead before the pickup caught fire in the eastbound lanes. Illinois State Police said in a report that they didn't know why the pickup was traveling the wrong way. The semi driver was injured and taken to an area hospital. That person's condition is not known. The crash happened about 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday, and the eastbound lanes were shut down for about eight hours while police conducted an investigation and cleared the wreckage.
