MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Leaders with Maryville City Schools will be considering rezoning elementary school districts for the upcoming school year to help alleviate overcrowding.

The school system shared that it is considering the proposed rezoning plan to help with overcrowding and to redistribute growth while keeping John Sevier, Sam Houston, and Foothills elementary schools balanced, productive and successful.

The proposed changes being considered are:

  • Proposed rezoning from Sam Houston to John Sevier

  • Area north of Sevierville Road between Columbus Street and S. Washington Avenue

  • Proposed rezoning from Foothills to Sam Houston

  • Morganton Reserve

  • The Cottages at Cade Cove

  • Oak Tree Apartments (Blue Sky Drive)

  • Wilson Road, Moonrise Lane, and Westside Drive

  • The rezoning would be for the 2025-2026 school year, and the school system shared that families will have the option to keep their children at their current school if they are willing to provide transportation. When the school board's decision is finalized, more information will become available for "grandfathering" provisions or to "stay put" to impacted families.

Affected families will be notified by mail and on the school's website. The rezoning will not affect Maryville City Schools' intermediate school zones.

Before the School Board's meeting on November 18, there will be a time at 5 p.m. for public input to answer questions and provide the board with feedback. For those who cannot attend, Maryville City Schools said that comments and questions can be emailed to or shared by calling the district at 865-982-7121.
