What lessons did Connecticut learn from Election Day?
HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Did Connecticut's first year of early voting cut down on polling lines on Election Day?
Almost 750,000 people voted early. Connecticut Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas called it a success, and said it did cut down on those long lines in some locations.
However, there were still some bumps in the road. Branford and Ansonia experienced issues with tabulators. Thomas said that's not uncommon at election time.
"I think most people have heard me say that our tabulators were purchased before the iPhone was invented," she said.
Record high turnout for the last day of early voting
There are procedures for when one goes down. She said those were followed, and that new tabulators are coming next year.
Same-day registration also was a challenge. Numbers were high, which was to blame for some results being delayed.
"People don't realize that every one of those absentee ballots and early votes have to be fed one by one," Thomas said.
