Sports Matt Leinart Shares Brutally Honest Take On State Of USC Football Under Lincoln Riley

The 11th-ranked USC Trojans dropped their second Big Ten road game of the season on Saturday night, this time to the underdog Minnesota Golden Gophers in Minneapolis after a game-sealing interception by Gophers freshman defensive back Koi Perich.

Afterward, former USC Trojans Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart could not hold back his brutally honest thoughts on the state of the Trojans' program under Coach Lincoln Riley.

"Feel like we are just stuck in neutral," the Fox Big Noon Kickoff analyst said on his X account.

Leinart's post came on the heels of another about what became a USC loss to PJ Fleck's Gophers on the road.

"This will be a very bad loss for Usc. Very bad!" Leinart wrote.

The Trojans compiled 373 total yards on the evening. They outgained Fleck's Gophers but still gave up a shocking 362 yards including 193 on the ground, fueling fears of another defensive breakdown similar to last year's Pac-12 outfit.

The Trojans must now regroup in time to face Coach James Franklin's 7th-ranked and undefeated Penn State Nittany Lions in The Coliseum next weekend.

Time is running out for Coach Riley's Trojans to make a run at a possible Big Ten title game appearance and College Football Playoff spot.

The team's margin of error has become incredibly slim, and now it's up to Riley and his staff to figure out what went wrong before the 2024-2025 season becomes another lost one in Los Angeles.
