Mayfield Heights woman files false report about 'stolen' gun

MAYFIELD HIEGHTS, Ohio - A woman reported Sept. 13 that a gun she had purchased a week earlier had gone missing and she was uncertain if it had last been in her vehicle or apartment.

She wrote out a statement that only said that she had purchased a gun, went out with friends, got drunk, then realized the gun was missing two days later.

Upon investigation, the woman, 23, said she was not being truthful. She said a friend had driven her to the store in Parma where the gun was purchased, and she accidentally left it in his vehicle when he brought her back to her Gates Mills Place apartment.

She said she did not know the friend's name or have a way to contact him.

She was subsequently charged with falsification.

The incident continues to be under investigation, with the belief that the woman made a straw purchase by buying the gun for someone who is prohibited from purchasing or possessing one themselves.
