Michael Jordan’s “Pretty Crazy” Customization on $250,000 Rolex Leaves Jeweler Speechless

Michael Jordan was not just a phenomenon on the floor but also had many off-court habits. Apart from collecting championships and cars, Michael Jordan has been an avid collector of watches. Back in the early 90s, MJ wore a classic Rolex with a gold Day-Date with a black dial. Over the years, he hasn't missed when it comes to adding rare pieces to his collection. Recently, a renowned jeweler even admitted that it was probably the first time he had seen a custom-made watch, and it was His Airness who made it possible.

"The GOAT, Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan's been famously known for having a crazy watch collection that he's been rocking throughout his basketball career and rocking up until today and he's continuously adding crazy pieces to his own collection." Moses the Jeweler was on GQ and highlighted 3 different watches that MJ had. "It's pretty crazy to do that on such an original piece like the Paul Newman, that vintage Daytona. I never heard of this being custom done, but comment down below what you know about this."

He even admitted he had little to no information at the time about the customization. The watch in discussion was the Paul Newman reference 6241, which had a sapphire crystal type of band, and it seemed like it was custom-made for Moses. At any retail market, it would be valued at least $250,000. Apart from that, there were two other pieces that the jeweler reviewed.

"And of course, the GOAT has to wear one of the rarest pieces of all time." Moses was speaking about Michael Jordan sporting a 6263 Rolex Daytona, one of the rarest. That's why in 2020, the Rolex Daytona 6263 still managed to sell for an impressive sum of $5.48 million, one of the most expensive Rolex watches ever sold. Moses even called it the "best sports model Rolex makes."

Lastly, he reviewed the classic Rolex blue Sky-Dweller. The thing that differentiates this from any other watch is that the Sky-Dweller is one of the few Rolexes one can actually spin the bezel to have different functionalities. Currently on the secondary, one can find the watch for $18,000 – $61,000. But this is not all that the Jordan family boasts.

The Jordans and their exorbitant collection Just like the father, even Marcus Jordan recently wore the Rolex Sky-Dweller Oyster, 42 mm, in yellow gold. Yes, it has 18-carat gold, and as of 2024, the retail price of this watch sits at a staggering amount of $53,346. Earlier this year, Michael Jordan broke his Rolex tradition at a celebration event.

The Chicago Bulls legend was spotted with a watch worth $2 million during the victory of his NASCAR team 23XI at the GEICO 500. MJ congratulated Tyler Reddick on the win at Talladega and the world witnessed the Purnell Escape II Absolute Sapphire Blue Moon inspired by the iconic designs of Audemars Piguet's Royal Oak and Patek Philippe's Nautilus.

Apart from this, MJ also boasts his collection with A. Lange & Söhne Datograph ($100,000) and Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Ceramic ($14,600). These are just a few examples of Michael Jordan and his love of rare timepieces, literally!
