Middle Tennessee to see taste of winter this week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — So far this fall has been very warm. Temperatures have been in the 70s and 80s and Nashville has yet to see a freeze. This is all expected to change this week.

On Tuesday, Nov. 19, a cold front will swing through middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky. Along the front, we will see showers and a few thunderstorms. After the front moves through, we will see a big temperature drop.

Thursday will be very cold and windy, with temperatures struggling to get out of the 30s in the afternoon. Precipitation will move in from the north on Thursday. Yes precipitation, not just rain. Parts of east Tennessee and the Plateau could see their first snowflakes of the season!

It looks like a few wet snowflakes will arrive, but accumulating snow is unlikely.

Along with the cold temperatures, we will see very strong winds. From Wednesday through Friday, there will be a northwest wind gusting anywhere from 15 to 30 mph. This will make it feel even colder. Wind chills could get into the 20s for parts of middle Tennessee.

After the clouds and showers move out, that will set the stage for the coldest temperatures of the season.

It looks like Saturday morning will be Nashville's best shot at seeing a freeze. So far, the coldest temperature recorded at Nashville International Airport is 37 F. This is abnormal because Nashville typically records its first freezing temperature by Nov. 1.

If Nashville doesn't record a freeze during this cold blast, we could break the record for the latest first freeze. The current record is Nov. 27, which was set back in 2009.
