Milford Teacher Named 2024 Choral Director Of The Year A high school teacher has been recognized as the 2024 Choral Director of the Year by the Connecticut American Choral Directors Association.

MILFORD, CT – Milford Public Schools is proud to announce that Kelly Jones, Jonathan Law High School's Choir Director, has been recognized as the 2024 Choral Director of the Year by the Connecticut American Choral Directors Association.

This award is presented annually to honor a chorus director's exceptional dedication and tireless service to their students, community, colleagues, and the art of choral music.

"We are incredibly proud of Kelly for being named Choral Director of the Year," said Jonathan Law High School Principal Bryan Darcy. "This prestigious recognition reflects not only her exceptional talent, but also her unwavering commitment to our students and community. Kelly's passion for music inspires all of us, and we are fortunate to have her as part of our team."

"I am deeply honored to receive this recognition, but the true credit goes to my incredible students who inspire me every day," Jones said. "Their enthusiasm and talent drive me to be the best educator I can be, and I am grateful to be part of their musical journey."

Originally from Pennsylvania, Jones received her Bachelor's degree in Music Education from West Chester University where she had the honor of performing at prestigious venues like the Kimmel Center and the Academy of Music. Jones also holds a graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Saint Joseph.

In 2010, Jones joined the Milford Public Schools music department, and in 2016, became the choir director at Jonathan Law High School, bringing boundless passion and energy to her role. For the past eight years, she has inspired students with her dynamic teaching style, fostering a love for choral singing and building the program into a flourishing community that bolsters leadership, acceptance and growth. Her commitment to excellence was recognized when she was named 'Teacher of the Year' for Milford Public Schools in 2023.

Her students have found success performing in CMEA region honors festivals, All State, ACDA and Nafme All Eastern, All National, with Concora and recently, the JLHS Advanced Vocal Ensemble was honored to be showcased at the CMEA All-State Conference in 2022.
