Montana PSC needs help | C. Burt Caldwell
If you are pleased or satisfied with NorthWestern Energy's recent 28% increase approved unanimously by the Montana Public Service Commission (PSC) and with the additional request in August for another 8% on electricity and 16% on gas, then you need read no further.
It appears that over the past few years the PSC has simply rubber-stamped all of NorthWestern's requests for rate increases. It is also interesting that while receiving more than $100,000 salaries plus expenses (which an audit this year showed were being abused), PSC members can't be bothered to attend meetings in person, but by Zoom instead. It also appears they haven't had the time to read the applications for increases, but just approve them.
Elena Evans, a mother of two and running as an Independent, wants to change this and will work to have the commission do the work it is paid to do — 'ensuring affordable, reliable and sustainable utility services.' Elena is qualified (and may be the only one on the PSC) to do the job: a trained geologist; a water quality expert; and a past Executive Director of a non-profit. She has experience working with government requirements and always reads the fine print.
If you would like to restore the public's voice in the PSC and you live in PSC District 4, join me by supporting Elena with your vote.
