Motorcyclist hospitalized after hitting deer in Cass Co

CALVIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A motorcyclist is in the hospital after he hit a deer in Cass County Saturday afternoon.

Just before 5 p.m., deputies with the Cass County Sheriff's Office were sent to the area of Mt. Zion Street near Kessington Road for a motorcycle crash.

Responding deputies learned that a motorcycle, driven by a 68-year-old Vandalia man, was heading westbound on Mt. Zion Street and hit a deer that was in the roadway. The man was thrown from the bike.

The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital for treatment, the sheriff's office said. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The sheriff's office said that drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
