KINGMAN, AZ (AZFamily) — A motorcyclist is dead after being hit by a vehicle on Interstate 40 in northwestern Arizona on Tuesday night.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. on I-40 near Kingman.

A motorcycle was stopped on the shoulder of eastbound I-40, DPS said. The motorcyclist pulled from the shoulder and merged into the second lane, in front of an approaching commercial vehicle.

The commercial vehicle rear-ended the motorcycle, ejecting the rider from the motorcycle, officials said. That person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the motorcyclist.

I-40 was closed near Kingman, but it was reopened by Wednesday morning.
