Mountain lion sightings and what you can do

REDLANDS, Colo. ( KREX ) – Mountain lions are being spotted in the Redlands. Residents are reporting their sightings on the Nextdoor app.

According to officials, these big cats are wandering into these areas in search of deer.

Deer make their way into neighborhoods looking for food and when they do, mountain lions follow.

Albert Romero, assistant area wildlife manager with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, states, "If you're walking your dog make sure your dog's on a leash, so the dog doesn't attract the mountain lion and it doesn't see your pet as prey, but also if you're walking along and you see it. And it looks like it notices you, make yourself look big, put your arms up. If you have a jacket on or a sweater, make it look big, talk to it forcefully."

Officials say if you let your pet outside, go outside with it so you can keep an eye out for it. CPW suggests not feeding your pets outside as it can attract other animals. Also, officials recommend removing your bird feeders this time of year.
