GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — An 81-year-old woman is alive thanks to a K-9 officer after being lost in the woods for nearly 24 hours.

Michigan State Police say troopers responded to a home in Ogemaw County on Tuesday evening on a report that the woman was missing. A family member confirmed that the last time the woman had been seen was 10 p.m. the day before.

Investigators found her coat, purse and cell phone still at the home, but not the woman. So, they decided to bring a K-9 to the scene to start a track.

K-9 Loki was brought to the home and immediately led trackers into the woods.

"Upon arrival, Loki began tracking through the woods behind the residence and located a pair of gloves and a walking cane leading down into a steep ravine," MSP said in a social media post . "A short distance later, Loki located the elderly woman at the base of the ravine unable to move."

Troopers, along with help from local firefighters and paramedics, weathered a heavy storm while carrying the woman out of the woods.
