Multiple people are believed to be dead in a house fire in Kentucky.

Fire crews were called to the home on Fifth Street in Carrollton early Thursday morning.

The house was fully engulfed in flames and has since collapsed.

Firefighters said a toddler was rescued and taken to the hospital. The little girl had collapsed near a door at the back of the home.

According to an investigator, as many as six people, including other children, lived in the home. He said it may be evening before they can get inside what's left of it.

Smoke continued to cover the home six hours after fire crews arrived.

As of noon, firefighters were still trying to extinguish a hot spot they said is coming from the basement of the home. The area isn't expected to be cooled down until the evening, according to officials.

An excavator and crews were seen rummaging through the debris.

Police reported that at least four people were inside the home when the fire started.
