Names of Court Avenue shooting victims released by Des Moines Police

DES MOINES, IOWA — The Des Moines Police Department is releasing the names of two men killed in a shooting in the Court Avenue District along Water Street on the morning of September 15th. Police say three men were in an argument that escalated around 2:00 a.m. into an exchange of gunfire that hit all three men.
Dennis Hawkins, Jr. – 29-years-old – was pronounced dead at the scene. Omar Marquez, Jr. – 35-years-old – died the following day from his injuries at a Des Moines hospital. The third person injured in the shooting, a 29-year-old-man, has been released from the hospital. Police are not releasing his name.
The shooting remains under investigation.
