Five athletes and five teams who made an impact on the local preps scene this past week:

Five athletes

Colin Olson, Loveland cross country: Olson won the Loveland Sweetheart Invitational boys race for the second year in a row on Friday on the North Lake Park/LHS course.

The senior ran the 5,000-meter race in 16 minutes, 26 seconds. He was 30 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Gideon Morre from Laramie (Wyo.), and led the Red Wolves to a second-place team finish behind Fort Collins.

Ashlyn Tafoya, Thompson Valley volleyball: With a 34-assist match against Roosevelt on Thursday, Tafoya surpassed 3,000 career assists.

The senior continues to climb up the CHSAA all-time career assists list with the record of 3,715 in sight. After recording another 30 assists in the Eagles' match against Loveland on Saturday, she has 3,052.

Clint Summers, Resurrection Christian golf: Summers won the individual title at the Longmont Invitational last Tuesday and then tied for second at the Fort Morgan Invitational two days later.

At Twin Peaks Golf Course in Longmont, he shot a 65. Two days later, he shot a 71 at Quail Dunes Golf Course in Fort Morgan. The Cougars won the team title at both tournaments. They will compete in the Patriot League tournament on Tuesday.

Anthony Herre, Loveland Classical cross country: Herre was the top local finisher in the 2A/3A boys race at the St. Vrain Invitational on Saturday in Lyons.

The sophomore ran the course in 16:40.4. He was 17.2 seconds behind Jack Cerullo, a senior from Peak to Peak. The Lions finished eighth at the meet as a team.

Cam Frost, Mountain View football: Frost was a big part of the Mountain Lions' 20-17 victory over Wellington on Thursday night to improve to 3-1 on the season.

The junior completed 15 of 25 passes for 245 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed nine times for 15 yards as the Mountain Lions rallied from a 17-6 deficit with 14 fourth-quarter points.

Five teams

Thompson Valley football: The Eagles kept their undefeated season intact with a 20-0 victory over Loveland on Friday, the second year in a row they defeated the Red Wolves via shutout.

It marked the first time Thompson Valley won its first four games since 2005, and the first time ever that the Eagles have defeated the Red Wolves in consecutive seasons. With the victory, Thompson Valley vaulted to No. 1 in CHSAA's 3A rankings released Monday morning.

Loveland girls cross country: Loveland captured the team title at the Loveland Sweetheart Invitational on Friday. The Red Wolves finished with 64 points, 14 points ahead of second-place Laramie.

The Red Wolves' top five runners all finished in the top 23. Sydney Brantley was sixth, Sylvia Torres 10th, Sofia Ledermann 11th, Ella Ledermann 14th and Ryan King 23rd.

Thompson Valley boys cross country: The Eagles traveled to the Warrior Lincoln Park Classic in Grand Junction on Friday and finished in second place behind Cheyenne Mountain.

Thompson Valley totaled 51 points to Cheyenne Mountain's 36. The Eagles had seven runners finish in the top 18 and their top five all finished in the top 14. Curtis Smela was the top Thompson Valley finisher, coming in sixth. Trent Gabrielson was just behind him in seventh.

Berthoud boys golf: The Spartans won their fourth Longs Peak League event in a row on Wednesday, finishing five strokes ahead of second-place Severance with a 233.

Berthoud had three golfers finish in the top 10, led by Ezra Keller, who was first with a 71. Xavier Johnson and Graham McNair tied for ninth with an 81. The Spartans competed Monday at the league championship tournament at Collindale Golf Course in Fort Collins.

Resurrection Christian softball: The Cougars have had an up-and-down season so far, but they have proven to have the ability to score runs.

Against Moffat County on Saturday, RCS won 23-0 in three innings to improve to 11-5. Senior Karissa Lippincott pitched two no-hit innings and was 4-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and three RBIs. Freshman Mia Lee had three hits and drove in three runs also.
