Napa Valley's Mike Thompson Reelected To U.S. House: AP
NORTH BAY, CA — Democrat Mike Thompson won reelection Tuesday to a U.S. House seat representing California.
The Napa County native defeated Republican challenger John Munn, a 75-year-old Davis resident, Cal Fire retiree and former longtime Davis school board member.
Thompson is a Vietnam War veteran who chairs the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force and is a member of the Blue Dog Coalition, which describes itself as "moderate, fiscally responsible Democrats."
He was first elected to Congress in 1999 and currently represents the 4th Congressional District , encompassing all of Napa County and parts of Sonoma, Lake, Solano and Yolo counties.
The first election night results from Napa County showed Thompson with 15,392 votes and Munn with 6,699 votes.
Unofficial election-night results from Yolo County showed 23,059 votes (68 percent) for Thompson and 10,698 votes (31 percent) for Munn.
The race in Solano County, however, was closer. Thompson garnered 19,336 votes (51.26 percent), while Munn yielded 18,386 votes (48.74 percent), according to unofficial election-night results.
The Associated Press declared Thompson the winner at 12:27 a.m. EST, which is 9:27 p.m. local time in Napa.
"To the voters of the Fourth District: Thank you," Thompson said . "It is the greatest honor of my life to serve the people of the community where I was born, grew up, and raised my own family. I am humbled and honored to have earned your trust to continue representing our community in Congress."
