Lassen National Forest officials and offices have welcomed new Acting Forest Supervisor Tara Jones to the team.

Jones comes from the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, where she was the District Ranger of the Trinity River and South Fork Management Units. She was the Timber Sale Contracting Officer for the Shasta-Trinity, Mendocino, Six Rivers, and Klamath National Forests, and previously worked on the Lassen National Forest for over 20 years.

Through her career, Jones has worked in Fire Suppression, Fire Prevention, Timber Sale Accounting, Business Management, Timber Sale Prep and Timber Sale Administration, bringing a wealth of experience, as well as local knowledge back to the forest and her new responsibilities.

She grew up in Burney and attended Lassen Community College where she played basketball and softball. Her husband of 35 years is from Westwood, and they have five children.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to re-join this community and this team of dedicated public servants and resource stewards here on the Lassen National Forest," said Jones. "It is heartbreaking to see the devastating impacts of the Dixie, Bald, Eiler and other catastrophic fires on the Lassen's landscape. I understand that post fire restoration is very important to our communities that utilize their national forest as part of their daily lives and to the industries that provide economic benefits to the counties we serve."

Jones said she believes the Lassen National Forest is fortunate to have strong and capable local partners to help take on the work ahead in restoring and supervising the forest.

"I understand the importance and impacts of effective, responsible forest management, and look forward to building relationships with our communities, state, county, local and tribal governments, and our many stakeholders to support and advance the great work already underway here," she added.
