New Bedford Residents Advised Not to Run Sprinklers Due to Drought

NEW BEDFORD ( WBSM ) — New Bedford residents are being advised not to run outdoor sprinkler systems due to the ongoing drought conditions in southeastern Massachusetts.

The City of New Bedford put out a release Tuesday stating the CIty "is prohibiting nonessential outdoor water uses, namely sprinkler systems, on account of the drought conditions across the Northeast."

The restriction will remain in effect until further notice, the City said. It was noted that "the restriction is considered precautionary," as right now the water levels for the city's drinking water source, the Assawompset Pond Complex in Lakeville and Rochester, "shows signs of drought but remains healthy."
