NOAA unveils its newest instrument to its The 2024 Hurricane Season marks the first year NOAA has deployed StreamSondes in large numbers, giving scientists the ability to gather more data from inside tropical storms/hurricanes. The small, light-weight instruments are released into the storm from NOAA's P-3 Orion Hurricane Hunting aircraft. The P-3 is a modified aircraft designed to fly into hurricanes to collect data. NOAA Researchers aim to revolutionize technology for gathering storm data to increase forecast accuracy and better understand storm dynamics.

Potential Tropical Cyclone 19 formed in the Caribbean on Wednesday afternoon and is expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Sara on Thursday. Hurricane Watches have been posted for parts of Honduras with Tropical Storm Watches in northern Nicaragua.
