New Maple Seed Collective art studio opening in Clearwater

There's a new art studio opening in Clearwater on Nov. 9 and you are invited to visit this creative new space from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the lower floor of the Wells Gray Visitor Information Centre. Owner Beth Northcott is no stranger to opening a new business in Clearwater as she's been along for the ride with husband and director for Wells Gray Outdoors Club and the Clearwater Ski Hill, Maveric Northcott who opened a popular year round sports store just off Clearwater Valley Road in recent years, called Wells Gray Outfitters. She also sits on the board for the Wells Gray Curling Club and the two young entrepreneurs are excited for the potential this new venue offers locals looking for a "new creative outlet" says Beth. "I have such a passion for art, photography, and specifically for pottery and stained glass. The first time I tried throwing on a wheel I bought my own that night," she told the Clearwater Times with a laugh.

Northcott said she is really looking forward to welcoming the community into what she described as an "inclusive, creative space — a place for people to gather and explore their creative side."

They will be offering drop-in ceramic painting, acrylic canvas painting, watercolour painting and more, she said.

"Our soft opening will start with Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m and then start offering evening pottery and stained glass classes. Our plan is to extend our hours further in the new year." Northcott is hoping locals will drop by and offer ideas about what they are personally interested in pursuing and learning about. She is also stocking some DIY art kits, stickers and local artwork for sale as well. Her hope is to eventually get more involved in a few of the local community organizations, events and partner with other artists in the valley. Maveric, her husband, is supporting her in this new business "helping to make this dream a reality" as her "biggest fan" she said.
