A Passaic County woman was charged Monday with first-degree attempted murder after police said she stabbed a 4-year-old multiple times last month.

Mabel Campechano, of Paterson, is also charged with two counts of third-degree endangering and third and fourth-degree weapons offenses, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes.

Valdes and Paterson police Officer-In-Charge Isa Abbassi said in a statement that Campechano was arrested without incident Monday at the prosecutor's office in Totowa.

Police were called Aug. 23 to a home in the area of East 24th Street and 10th Avenue in Paterson on a report of a girl who had been stabbed inside a home.

First-responders took the injured child to St. Joseph's University Medical Center, where she was treated and later listed in stable condition.

No motive for the attack was given. ABC-7 reported Campechano was the victim's aunt , but prosecutors did not specify the relationship.

Campechano was held Tuesday at the Bergen County Jail. Attorney information for Campechano was not immediately available.
