NMSP Probe Shooting In Tucumcari – Suspect On The Lam

  • Gutierrez is considered armed, dangerous and not to be approached.
  • TUCUMCARI – On Sept. 21, 2024, at around 12:20 p.m., the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Investigations Bureau was requested to investigate a shooting incident that occurred at 621 West High St. in Tucumcari.

    State Police agents learned that Alex Gutierrez, 24, of Albuquerque, and another unidentified male went to 621 West High St. and knocked on the door. The occupants, a male and female, were acquainted with Gutierrez and eventually opened the door.

    Gutierrez, who was armed with a handgun, demanded his backpack that was in the residence. The female victim threw the backpack towards Gutierrez. After Gutierrez retrieved the backpack, he and the male resident engaged in a verbal confrontation concluding with Gutierrez shooting the male twice in the abdomen. The male resident was taken to an area hospital where he is in stable condition.

    Following the shooting, Gutierrez and the unidentified male (he previously arrived with) fled the area on foot. The suspects approached an innocent bystander driving a white Nissan, held them up at gunpoint, and forced them to drive to Oak Street in Tucumcari, where they released the driver and fled the area.

    Gutierrez and the unidentified male have not been located.

    An arrest warrant has been issued for Alex Gutierrez charging him with the following crimes:

  • Attempted Murder in the First Degree
  • Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (3 counts)
  • Gutierrez should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
