VAARP Pittsburg County chapter honors veterans on Day of Service

Sep. 23—AARP's National Day of Service occured on Sept. 11 and is a day for AARP volunteers and staff to perform community service projects to improve the lives of others and to honor those killed in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

The AARP Pittsburg County Chapter's Day of Service project involved delivering 150 handwritten cards to three veterans organizations. The notes thanked the brave men and women for their service and sacrifice. The organizations include the American Legion Post 79 in McAlester, Pittsburg County Disabled American Veterans Chapter #20, and Robert B. Thomas VFW Post 1098 in Krebs, plus Veteran Outpatient Clinic in McAlester Regional Hospital.

"On Day of Service, it is an honor to thank those who selflessly served to protect our freedom," said AARP Oklahoma Interim State President JoeAnn Vermillion.
