CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — North Carolina politicians could be working in the White House come January. Two have publicly said they are interested. Michele Morrow, who lost to Mo Green in the race for State Superintendent, posted about her desire for a job with the Trump administration on X on Monday. She posted a link to a Trump transition website, backed by Robert F Kennedy Jr . She asked her followers on X to vote for her on that site and increase her chances of being brought on by President-Elect Donald Trump. Former Congressman Mark Walker told WXII-TV that Trump has promised a "high-capacity role" that has yet to be determined. He joined the Trump campaign in March after withdrawing from a race for NC's 6th congressional district. Walker's role dealt with outreach to faith groups and minority communities. He said it appealed to him because it gave him "the opportunity to be in the room" when decisions are made. Eric Heberlig, a political science professor at UNC Charlotte, told Queen City News that it is normal to see politicos seeking a role in the White House whenever a new administration comes in. He said politicians either make deals with presidential campaigns or lobby for themselves once the election is over. Heberlig added that even if both Morrow and Walker get the nod, do not expect any real impact to the Tar Heel State, "just because policy has become so nationalized and so ideological, there aren't as many state-specific issues that someone in the White House can provide special assistance on, as was true decades ago." President-Elect Trump's inauguration is set for Monday, January 20.
