Northern State sweeps U-Mary in NSIC openers
Northern State shot the lights out after the intermission and pulled away for its first win of the season.
The Wolves hit on 20 of 28 shots from the field (71.4 percent) and drilled 10 of 15 (67 percent) from three-point range over the final 20 minutes, turning a two-point halftime deficit into a 90=74 win over the Marauders.
Jacksen Moni, a junior from West Fargo Sheyenne, led five players in double figures with a game-high 31. He hit 12 of 18 shot from the floor, including 4 of 6 from long range, and finished with four rebounds and six assists.
Josh Dilling added 19 points, Augustin Reede 15 and Trey Longstreet and Andrew Bergan each netted 11 for NSU (1-4, 1-0 NSIC).
Zyon Smith led the Marauders with 16 points. Gerald Gittens added 13 and Xavier Lewis 12 for U-Mary (2-2, 0-1 NSIC).
The Marauders compete in the Northern State Classic this weekend in Aberdeen, S.D., playing Trinity Bible College on Friday and Peru State (Neb.) on Saturday.
A tough shooting night was costly for U-Mary in its NSIC opener.
The Wolves connected on 25 of 51 field goal attempts (49 percent) while the Marauders shot 33 percent (20 for-61).
Alayna Benike had 20 points four Wolves in double digits. Decontee Smith, a freshman from Central Cass, added 14 points and eight rebounds. Madelyn Bragg and Rianna Fillipi each finished with 11. Bragg led the Wolves with 12 rebounds.
Lexie Schneider paced the Marauders with 22 points and nine rebounds. Megan Zander added 15 and Mariah McKeever nine.
The Marauders return to NSIC play on Saturday, Dec. 2, hosting Minnesota State-Moorhead.
