Oct. 7 is final day to register to vote, officials recommend registering in person
We are now 30 days out from the Nov. 5 general election. Today, Oct. 7, is the last day you can register to vote, and local elections officials are recommending you register in person.
The year is 2024 and Texas still doesn't register voters online even though other states, including Oklahoma, have been doing it for more than 20 years now. So you need to register today by mail or in person.
But longtime Travis County Voter Registrar Bruce Elfant recommends you not try to do it by mail. He says over the years, he's received up to 2,000 voter forms that apparently were dropped in the mail box the last day to register but didn't get the required postmark until the following day.
Elfant offers this advice, "For those who are interested in mailing their voter registration applications at this late date, I would discourage that because we have to have a timely postmark and a lot of times the mail is not picked up or they don't see (the last pick up time of the day) on the box."
So he's urging everyone who is of legal voting age and qualified to vote in Texas to take the time to register in person today so they can make their voice heard in November.
In Texas you can only register to vote in person with a duly-authorized deputy voter registrar. Here's the of where they're going to be today in Travis County.
