The National Centers for Environmental Information found that the average global temperature for October was 2.38 degrees above the 20th-century average of 57.2 degrees, making it the second warmest October in NOAA's 175-year global climate record. Year to date, for the period from January through October, the global surface temperature was 2.3 degrees above average, making it the warmest such period on record. According to NCEI's Global Annual Temperature Outlook, there is now a 99% chance that 2024 will end up being the world's warmest year on record.
